Teko Dada (TIDA), meaning “Strength of a Woman,” is a grassroots, stigma-free organization founded by young women from Mbita. Born from shared struggles like poverty, limited healthcare, and social barriers, many founders were fishmongers facing exploitation and economic insecurity. TIDA was created to provide a safe, empowering space for rural women and girls, especially those in high-risk or informal jobs. It addresses issues like school dropouts, gender-based violence, lack of reproductive health services, and climate-related threats such as declining fish stocks and flooding.
